Treatments and tricks... The rough gem in the test tube was sold as a very nice Tanzanian ruby. When client asked to have it checked, a peek under the microscope showed a suspicious sign. A quick soak in acetone revealed a pale purplish corundum and a nicely colored acetone.
Even when buying rough, never forget to check thoroughly if buying from unknown dealers.
